This is a guide to getting student help and student advice when at University.
Everyone needs help at some point, for whatever reason. Hopefully these tips and tricks below will help you fix your problems.
Student help and advice rule #1
You should NEVER be too proud to ask for help or advice from your University. Whether it is from lecturers or just the student staff, they are the people that are in the best position to help, and they should be happy to help. The whole reason they have a job is because of you… You pay their wages!
Student help and advice rule #2
Check your Universities student portal or website if you cannot get in touch with anyone in person. There should be a comprehensive help section on the website which should be able to give you whatever student advice or help you need until you can speak to someone in person.
Student help and advice rule #3
If you think that you have mitigating circumstances (circumstances that may stop you doing the best of your ability) tell your course leader immediately. They will be very thankful and grateful that you came to them instantly and it puts them in a much better position to deal with the circumstances that you are in, and making sure you can do the best of your ability.
Student help and advice rule #4
Don’t worry about your finances. Everyone is pretty much in the same boat at university. You should have a student loan and a no interest overdraft facility on your bank account just in case you get really stuck for funds. Remember that when you finish University and get a graduate student job, your loan and overdraft repayments will be ridiculously low to help you find your feet in the real world.

If you can’t do any of the above things: go to your friends! Talking through your problems with a good friend or your partner can be one of the best ways to solve your problems, or at least clear your head and stop you worrying for a while. Its remarkable what good advice your friends/partners have, if you need it!
And finally, don’t worry! As the old saying goes, worse things happen at sea!
I hope this student help and student advice guide will help you if you are ever stuck at University.
